SACSC Bulletin Board

Welcome to the SACSC Bulletin Board! This is where you will find past notices and articles that have been featured on our homepage.

SACSC is offering free resources to help you prevent bullying!

Niska comics are a fun way to prevent bullying and build positive social skills through character education. The comics are free to download and may be reproduced for educational puposes.

Each story features our mascot Niska, who faces moral dillemmas that youth are asked to solve by writing and illustrating the final page. This open-ended format serves two purposes: it encourages youth to reflect on problems they might face, and it gives parents and educators an opportunity to help them work through solutions.

– Kristal Winch, Child and Youth Care Worker

“Our facilitator was excellent, and just talking to her has helped me a lot. I’d recommend it to anyone.”

(Past SACSC workshop participants)

This is what past participants are saying about the SACSC Toward a Safe and Caring Community workshop series. These workshops are designed to prevent violence and build positive social skills among youth. If you are a parent, youth group leader, social worker, coach, or any other adult who wants to strengthen your community, we can help.

A new series of these workshops, with a focus on multicultural and newcomer youth, will be held in the following locations across Alberta from 2009-2010: Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Red Deer. Visit our events page or read a workshop overview to learn more.

SACSC Elementary Curriculum Integration Guides

Are you a teacher working with grades K-6? Would you like a resource with hundreds of innovative lesson plans that cover every subject in the curriculum? Do you want to integrate character education into your everyday teaching? Then the SACSC Curriculum Integration Guides are for you.

Each Toward a Safe and Caring Curriculum guide covers the following five topics:

1. Building a Safe and Caring Classroom
2. Developing Self-Esteem
3. Respecting Diversity and Preventing Prejudice
4. Managing Anger and Dealing With Bullying
5. Working it Out Together

Because these five topics can be integrated into the regular curriculum, covering them does not add to a teacher's workload. In fact, as character education becomes part of each subject teachers may spend less time addressing classroom management issues.
