SACSC Resources
Toward a Safe and Caring Community
This program is designed to help all adults who work with children—parents, teachers, coaches, youth group leaders, music instructors—model and reinforce positive social behaviour, whether at school, at home, in the community or in the workplace.
Community Workshops
The community program includes a series of five workshops for adults and older teens that are each presented in five one-hour sessions for a total of 25 hours of instruction. Participants who have successfully completed the following five topics and have received their community facilitator certification can order materials for the following workshops from the SACSC office:
- Topic 1: Living Respectfully
- Topic 2: Developing Self-Esteem
- Topic 3: Respecting Diversity and Developing Preventing Prejudice
- Topic 4: (A) Managing Anger and (B) Dealing with Bullying
- Topic 5: Working It Out Together

Community Resources
- Toward a Safe and Caring Community Workshops Action Handbook: A Guide to Implementation (LRC #455304)
Explains how to implement the Toward a Safe and Caring Community Program and suggests activities and strategies to help communities enhance respect and responsibility among children and teens.
- Violence-Prevention Catalogue of Alberta Agencies' Resources (LRC #455312)
Lists resources available from more than 200 organizations and community groups involved in violence-prevention and the character development of children and youth.
All of the resources available to parents, students and teachers can be ordered from the Learning Resources Centre by telephoning 427-5775 in the Edmonton calling area or 310-0000 elsewhere in the province. (ask for the LRC) Orders can also be placed on-line through the Learning Resources Centre. Alberta school discounts apply.
